Supernatural from my perspective.

I was given an assignment for my Writing for Television class. We got to choose a one hour drama that was on the air at that time, and write an episode for it. I, being the nerd that I am, chose Supernatural. My professor had never seen the show, but gave me the go-ahead. After I sent him my synopsis for my episode, he told me he was intrigued, and excited to see where I went with it. That was probably my favorite assignment from my film school career… well that, and the comic books I got to write. Thank you film school for letting my freak flag fly.
After the assignment was over, I got my grades. I got an A on this episode, and convinced my professor to watch the show. I think I would have been happy on that alone.
So, after this long intro, I'm going to post my Supernatural episode. But before I do, remember these things:

1. This was a few years ago. I didn't know what we know now.
2. This was written in Final Draft. There for it is in screenplay form. Don't be alarmed.
3. I've always been a big Daddy Winchester advocate. I've wanted him back since he died, so since I had the power, I made that happen.
4. I am not Eric Kripke, nor am I Sera Gamble. I am also not one of the amazing writers on the show, although I WANT TO BE.
5. This is all my own desire about how I wanted to make the show.

Please be kind. Enjoy the read. Tell me what you think. Jerk/Bitch.

TEASER EXT. WALLACE IDAHO STREETS -NIGHT

Street lights flicker. Silence engulfs the town.

 EXT. WALLACE MINE- NIGHT

Water trickles down the walls of the mine, crackle noises come from all around.

A SECURITY GUARD, 40s, walks through with his flashlight.

SECURITY GUARD
 Hello? Anyone down here?

He shines the light down the mine, turns around toward the exit. Begins to walk up. Hears rustling. Turns around.

SECURITY GUARD (CONT’D)
Last call. Anyone down here?

He hears laughter. He spots a young couple making out on the ground.

SECURITY GUARD
(CONT’D) What are you kids doing down here?
You can’t be down here at this hour. Come on, get gone!

The couple laughs, continue to kiss. The Security Guard turns around and walks towards the exit. He turns off the last light in the mine.

KYLE, 24. Blonde, clean cut good looking boy in jeans and a tee shirt. ALICIA, 23. Long brown hair, pretty girl in jeans and a button up shirt.

ALICIA
(pushes boy away) Wait, where did he go?

KYLE
(grabs her head)
Does it matter? We know how to get outta here

The boy leans into the girls neck, begins to kiss it. She giggles.

Blood sprays onto the couple.

page2image14512
ALICIA
 What is that?

KYLE
 (unbuttons her shirt)
What is what?

ALICIA
This, here. Look at this.

KYLE
That’s what I’m talking about

ALICIA
No, Kyle. I mean, shine the light over here.

Kyle grabs flashlight and shines on hands. Alicia Screams. Kyle drops flashlight, blood on mine walls, Security guard’s head lies detached from body in front of the flashlight.

OPENING TITLES

ACT ONE INT. WALLACE INN-EARLY MORNING

Dark red curtains, black and red walls, random art, fill the walls. DEAN WINCHESTER, 31, sleeps in a full sized bed next to his brother, SAM WINCHESTER, 27, in a separate full sized bed. Dean’s cell phone rings on the night stand to his left. He doesn’t lift his head off the pillow, reaches his arm and grabs the phone, flips it open.
page3image10088
Silence.

DEAN
Yeah?

JOHN (O.S.)
 Dean? Are you there, Dean?

Dean opens his eyes, looks at the caller ID, hangs up the phone. Slams his phone on the night stand, buries his head back in his pillow.

MOMENTS LATER

Dean’s cell phone rings, wakes up SAM.

SAM
You gonna get that, Dean?

DEAN
Nope, go back to sleep Sammy.

Sam’s phone rings. Dean opens his eyes, rolls his body over, sits up and grabs Sam’s phone.

SAM
Dean, what are you doing?

Dean hits the ignore button. Dean’s phone rings.

DEAN
Stop calling me you demonic son of

a bitch!
Sam surveys Dean. Dean’s eyes widen.

JOHN (O.S.)
Dean. Don’t hang up, it’s me, Dad.

I need your help.

Dean fully sits up, wipes his left eye with his hand.

DEAN
Yeah, right. Dad, huh?

Dean shakes his head and rolls his eyes. He hits the end button. Sets the phone on the night stand. Continues to sit up on bed.
Sam picks up his phone, glances at the voice mail icon. Hits the one button, and speaker phone.

JOHN (O.S.)
Sammy, It’s dad. I’m in Lawrence, I

need help. Where are you? Call me back, Sammy.

Sam presses the end call button. Stares at Dean, soulfully. Dean shuffles off the bed.

DEAN
Well, I’m up for the day.

Dean slaps his hands on his thighs and gets off the bed. Walks over to the fridge, pulls out a beer, twists the cap off.

SAM
Shouldn’t we talk about this?

Dean walks to the table, slams down the beer.

DEAN
What is there to talk about Sam?

Dad died. We saw it happen. We salted and burned his bones, the whole nine yards. Up and at ‘em, Sammy. We have police to impersonate.

Dean walks to the bathroom, closes the door. Sam looks at the clock.

SAM
Dean, it’s 4:30. Beer, really?

DEAN (O.S.)
Sammy, it’s a light beer.

Sam shakes his head, grabs his cell phone from the night stand. Hits the voice mail button and holds the phone to his ear.
Dean exits the bathroom, adjusts his tie. Sam quickly hangs up the phone, setting it on the bed beside him.
Sam grabs his duffle bag, searches for a suit jacket and tie.

SAM
Stranger things have happened,

Dean. If you think about it, this is us. We have seen it all, dad coming back wouldn’t be the most random, We are facing the apocalypse.

Dean interrupts.

DEAN
Sam! Go get dressed.

Dean waits for Sam to leave the room, picks up the beer, drinks it. Slams it back on the table, looks at his cell phone. ONE MISSED CALL: DAD. Puts the phone back in his pocket.
Sam and Dean exit the motel room and enter the Impala. Dean jumps in the drivers seat, Sam hold directions to the mine in his right hand. Dean starts the car, they drive.

EXT. WALLACE MINE- EARLY MORNING
They pull up to behind the mine. Dean grabs a gun from the glove box, and they exit the car. Out of sight, they sneak in the back.

SAM
We need to go this way

DEAN
How could you possible know that?

Like you have been here before.

SAM
It’s called research, Dean.

DEAN
(under his breath)

You’re the research.

Sam and Dean travel through the mine. Water trickles.

SAM
I really hope that’s just water

dripping.

Dean follows behind Sam, laughs. Steps into a puddle. Looks down.

DEAN
 Gross!

SAM
What?

Dean points.

DEAN
Dude,look.

Sam kneels.

SAM
Guess it wasn’t water.

Dean glares at Sam.

DEAN
So what do we know other than she’s

blood thirsty?

SAM
She’s been haunting this place for

years, and from the looks of it, it’s only gotten worse.

DEAN
 Ya think?

SAM
It takes a lot of time and anger

built up to get to this point.

DEAN
Happy, perky people don’t wind up

being a vengeful spirit.

Radio static echoes. Sam and Dean look at each other. Dean points down the mine, motions Sam to follow. They peek into an opening, slowly exit the mine from the back.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Put on your big girl panties,

Sammy.

Sam straightens his tie.

DEAN (CONT’D) Excuse us. Federal agents.

Dean pulls out his fake badge, Sam follows.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Agent Plant, this is Agent Page.

What can you tell us about what happened here?

POLICEMAN, 40s, motions the boys forward, grabs a flashlight from his holster.

POLICEMAN (while he walks)
A young couple saw the whole thing happen. They have some bumps an bruises but seem to be OK, just up the street at the hospital, there.

Sam pokes around the mine, apparent blood stains are on the walls.

SAM
So no body was recovered?

The Policeman shakes his head.

POLICEMAN
Not that we could find down here

anyway. We have a search going, hopefully in the next few hours the guys will find something.

Dean looks around at the mine, Sam and Dean look at each other.

DEAN
Where was that hospital located

again?

The Policeman walks the boys out of the mine, hands Dean a piece of paper with the couples names and information on it.

SAM
Thank you for your time.

Puts his hand out to shake. Dean does the same. They exit the mine, climb back into the Impala, Dean back in the drivers seat.

INT. CAR- DAY

DEAN
So, blood, no body, but two

survivors.

SAM
Must mean she was just looking for one in particular

DEAN
And we have dealt with those kind
before..

SAM
Thinking a lady in white?

DEAN
Has to be, right? One man missing,

blood everywhere, two people left relatively unharmed, fits the M.O.

SAM
So I guess that means, research?

DEAN
Oh Sammy. Right after the hospital

it will be weird encyclopedia.com for you.

Dean smirks. They pull into the hospital parking lot. They enter the hospital.

EXT./INT- HOSPITAL-SHOSHONE MEDICAL CENTER

Sam knocks on the door, and enters with badge in hand.

SAM
Sorry to bother you, We just have a

few questions, if you are up for it.
Kyle lies in bed, eyes puffy, scratches on his face. Alicia, sits with her arm in a sling in a chair at his bedside.

ALICIA
We already answered some officers

questions, can this wait?

KYLE
No, Alicia, it’s fine. How can we

help?

SAM
Can you tell us what happened last

night, whatever you can remember would be extremely helpful.

ALICIA
We were just sitting there, in the

dark.

KYLE
Well, we weren’t exactly just

sitting there... we were making out..more or less...We go to the mine for privacy from everyone..

DEAN
Kinda dangerous, an empty mine of

all places? Alicia glares at Dean.

ALICIA
We’ve been going there for years,

nothing bad has ever happened. We’ve been safe.

DEAN
I bet you have.

Sam looks at Dean, then back to Kyle and Alicia.

SAM
Please, continue.

KYLE
It all happened so fast. There was

the same guard that is always there, he comes down, shines the light and gives a warning, then he usually makes his way back up the mine. This time he warned us, and then there was blood everywhere.

DEAN
Did you notice any weird smell,

like sulfur? See anything that wasn’t supposed to be there?

Alicia looks at Dean with a “What the hell” look

ALICIA
It’s a mine, there is a lot of

weird smells.

Dean gives a look of disapproval.

DEAN
Any specific smells that you

remember? Different than normal?

KYLE
No, not that I can remember. It was

pretty normal.

ALICIA
Normal. Yeah, after the head and

blood everywhere.. That is what I like to call normal.

SAM
 How did you

KYLE
 (points at face)
Do this?

ALICIA
He slipped and fell on the blood,

taking me down with him, giving me a broken arm.

Dean’s cell phone rings.

DEAN
Excuse me, I have to take this.

Dean steps out into hallway.

 INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY-DAY

DEAN
What do ya got for me Bobby?

JOHN (O.S.)
Dean, don’t hang up. I need your

help. Where are you?

Dean’s face tightens, his eyes widen. He closes the phone.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM-DAY

Dean enters the hospital room.

DEAN
Thank you for your time, If you

remember anything else, don’t hesitate to call.

Sam looks at Dean, confused. Dean hands a card to Kyle, grabs Sam by the arm, drags him out of the room.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Sammy, the demon found us, we gotta

get out of here.

SAM
Demon? What kind of demon?

DEAN
I don’t know, but one of them did.

EXT. SHOSHONE MEDICAL CENTER

Dean rushes to the Impala, Sam follows behind him.
 INT. CAR- DAY
Dean slams the door, turns on the car. Drives.

SAM
We can’t just leave, Dean. We are

in the middle of a case. We can’t just walk out on the town, on these people, like that. You know we can’t.

DEAN
All I know is one demonic son of a

bitch is headed for us, and we know what they want, Sam.

EXT. WALLACE INN- DAY

Sam and Dean exit the car.

DEAN
They found us Sammy, we don’t have

a choice. We have to keep running.

SAM
You know that isn’t the way Dean.

Let’s finish the job.

Dean sticks the key in the door, unlocks and turns the handle. Pushes the door open. JOHN WINCHESTER, 50, Their father, sits on the corner of the bed.

JOHN
 Hey there boys.

END OF ACT ONE

ACT TWO

page13image1336
INT. WALLACE INN- DAY

Dean and Sam stand in the doorway. Dean drops his keys on the floor.

DEAN
 Sam, Sammy

Sam nods and ducks, grabs his duffle bag, pulls out a bottle filled with Holy water. Splashes John.

JOHN
 Boys.

DEAN
 Shut up.

Dean bends over, grabs his shot gun, shoots John with a round of rock salt. John falls off the bed, grabs his stomach in pain, begins to laugh.

JOHN
I taught you boys well, didn’t I?

Sam and Dean look at each other.

DEAN
Ok, if you really are who you say

that you are.... What year is the Impala?

Dean stares directly into John’s eyes. John cracks a smile.

JOHN
‘67. And where is my leather

jacket?

Dean takes a step back. Sam smiles. Sam walks over to John, throws his arms around him.

JOHN (CONT’D)
 Good to see you, Sammy.

Sam starts to cry, tears hit John’s shoulders. They pull apart. Dean saunters over.

JOHN (CONT’D)
 Hey there, Dean.

John walks slowly towards Dean, Dean steps into his arms. Dean and John cry.
Sam, Dean, and John sit at the table, eat pizza, drink beer.

SAM
So where were you? How did you get

out? How did you get to Lawrence?

DEAN
How are you in your own body? Did

the angels have something to do with this?

John puts down his slice of pizza.

JOHN
One question at a time, boys. I

woke up in Lawrence about a week ago. I don’t exactly know much else.

Dean continues to eat, Sam sets down his pizza.

SAM
You can’t just wake up somewhere

and not remember how you got there? It has been so long. I don’t see how this could happen without it being angelic or demonic.

Dean stares at Sam.

DEAN
Sam’s right. I did pop up out of no

where, no idea why, or where I was. It didn’t take me long to figure out that Angels were responsible.

Dean picks up his beer, drinks it. John picks up his beer.

JOHN
I was in Lawrence for an hour

before I figured out where I was. Once I did I had to figure out how to get out of there, and where you guys were.

DEAN
Any marks anywhere, like this one?

Dean rolls up his left sleeve, exposes the red burnt on hand print on his upper arm.

JOHN
Not that I’ve seen....

Sam looks at Dean.

SAM
How else could you have gotten

here, from where ever you were?

JOHN
I don’t know, Sammy. Obviously

somebody wanted me here, or else I wouldn’t be here. I can tell you are skeptical. You did the tests, I’m still here. How do you explain that?

Sam shakes his head.

SAM
I honestly don’t know. Dean.

Sam motions his hand for Dean to follow. Sam gets up from the table, walks towards the door.

JOHN
Take all the time you need boys. I

don’t blame you, I would be skeptical as Hell.

Sam smiles, walks out the door. Dean follows.

DEAN
 What Sam?

SAM
Dean, you know how this looks. We

salted and burned his bones. How could he come back from that?

Dean paces.

DEAN
I don’t know, Sammy. I mean, this

is dad. Everything about the man screams John Winchester.

SAM
I know, but it doesn’t seem

possible

DEAN
After all the things that we have

seen, and experienced, all the things that we have done. You can’t possibly say that.

Sam stops Dean from pacing, puts his arm on his shoulder.

SAM
We can’t say anything right now. We

just can’t.

The door opens. John stands behind it.

JOHN
I can hear you, ya know?

Sam and Dean look at John.

JOHN (CONT’D)
Come back in, we can discuss this

like men.

Dean looks at Sam, walks inside the door. Sam shakes his head, follows him in. Sam closes the door, stands by it.

JOHN (CONT’D)
Take a seat, Sammy.

Sam shakes his head.

SAM
I’m good standing.

DEAN
Come on, Sam. We need to figure

this all out.

SAM
What is there to figure out, John

Winchester is back in his old body, which just so happens we salted and burned, and we don’t know how he got there, but our dad is talking to us right now.

DEAN
 Sam!

Sam walks over and sits at the table next to Dean.

DEAN (CONT’D)
And the douche award goes to.

JOHN
He has reason to be skeptical, I

don’t understand it myself. I’m here. It’s me. Now, are you gonna tell me about this case that you’ve got going on here?

JOHN (CONT'D)
Bobby filled me in on most of the

details, but what have you dug up? Sam props up.

SAM
You talked to Bobby?

JOHN
How do you think I got here?

Neither one of you would tell me where you were, I know Bobby would know. We went through this whole mess as well.

DEAN
So, Bobby knows. Why didn’t he call

us?

JOHN
 Maybe he tried.

SAM
He obviously failed.

Sam gets his cell phone out of his pocket, dials Bobby.

SAM (CONT’D)
No answer, that’s not like him.

John stands up, frustrated.

JOHN
We can debate this all day, or we

could go hunt a demon and save some people. Your call.

Sam pulls out his laptop from his duffle bag.

SAM
Sarah Lindley, we think that she is

a woman in white. Everything fits.

Dean rips papers off of the wall. Hands them to John.

DEAN
Sarah Lindley, 26 hung herself

after drowning her two children in the Coeur d’ Alene river, after finding out her husband was unfaithful. Basic story.

JOHN
Do you know who her husband was?

SAM
That we do, his name is Howard. He

still works at the mine, which is where we were earlier. He wasn’t there, but should be tonight.

JOHN
I didn’t know these mines were

still active.

SAM
Not for mining, but for tours. They

haven’t completely shut it down. The sheriff says kids would just break in and we could have ourselves another “ My Bloody Valentine” on our hands

Dean smirks, shakes his head.

DEAN
We also found out where she was

buried. And yes, all of her was buried.

JOHN
Well we gotta get to Howard. Tell

me where Sarah is buried, I will salt and burn her bones while you guys go and get to Howard.

Sam takes a deep breath in.

SAM
Are you sure you are up to it?

DEAN
Come on, Sammy. He is up for

anything.

Dean pats John on the shoulder. Dean grabs his jacket off the chair, puts it on.

JOHN
There is something else you guys

should know.

Dean fixes his shirt under his jacket.

DEAN
 What’s that?

JOHN
I got a tip... on Lucifer... I

stumbled across some insider information. I know where he is.

Sam and Dean look at John, then back at each other.

DEAN
Why didn’t you say anything?

Dean grabs his keys off the coffee table.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Let’s go.

 John shakes his head.

JOHN
You still have a job to do here.

You can’t just..

SAM
We have been lookin’ for him for

weeks, then you show up, outta no where, expecting us to just stay and not go chase the bastard?

Dean sits on the chair next to John.

DEAN
Dad is right, Sam. We need to

finish the job, we can’t just abandon these people.

Sam gives Dean a confused look. Dean stands back up, keys in hand.

JOHN
I will head to the grave. Just give

me the directions. You get Howard, we will meet here after it is all done. Keep your cell phones on.

Dean nods. John walks out the door, Dean follows, Sam lags behind.

DEAN
 Sam. Come on.

Sam shuffles his feet. Follows Dean.

EXT. WALLACE INN- DAY

John gets into an older model F-150, peels out. Dean waves and goes straight to the Impala. Sam fidgets, climbs into the passenger seat.

SAM
Don’t cha think this is a little

weird, Dean? He knows where Lucifer is and we have to wait until this case is over to find out? I don’t know about you, but this isn’t making a whole lotta sense to me.

Dean looks out the drivers side window, turns his head back to Sam.

SAM (CONT’D)
So?

DEAN
So what? Yeah, it’s a little

random, but what about our lives is really in place?

Sam shakes his head.

SAM
How can you, out of all people,

defend this? We don’t even know if it’s all dad, or any of him. We just have to have that blind faith in the man.

DEAN
Sometimes blind faith is all you

got, Sammy.

SAM
That’s not good enough this time,

Dean. I want real answers. I want to know that our dad is actually back, I want to know that he is gonna stick around and be the father that we always needed as kids.

DEAN
It’s too late for that.

SAM
For what? To have a childhood

maybe, but a father, no.

DEAN
No promises will be made. I

guarantee that. If it is the real John Winchester, you know he won’t make any promises. He never did.

SAM
You can’t tell me that after this

case you don’t wanna know where the Hell he came from?

Dean shakes his head, repeatedly, turns up the radio. Sam stares at Dean. Dean puts his right hand on the steering wheel, his left hand out the window and taps on the roof.

EXT. WALLACE MINE-MINUTES LATER
Dean and Sam pull up to the mine. Dean parks the Impala crooked in the parking lot. Dean turns off the car and gets out. Sam looks out the window, slowly opens the door.

A Girl screams.

Dean opens the trunk, pulls out shot guns and rock salt. Sam stands up out of the car, Dean throws Sam a gun.

DEAN
 Let’s go, Sammy.

Sam follows Dean into the mine. Dean Switches on a flashlight, holds in left hand, shot gun in right.

INT. WALLACE MINE-SECONDS LATER
The mine is cold, damp, dank. Sam and Dean walk with caution through the darkness.

SAM
 See anything?

DEAN
 Not yet.

Dean shines the flashlight down the mine, back at Sam.

DEAN (CONT’D)
 You heard that too, right?

Sam nods his head.

DEAN (CONT’D)
What the Hell. I mean, really, What

the Hell Sam?

SAM
 I don’t know.

INT. WALLACE MINE OFFICE

HOWARD,43, good looking guy, sits as his desk.

HOWARD (on phone)
Yeah, Clive. We should have that all dug up by Thursday. No, you don’t have to go somewhere else. Really, where else would you go? It’s always a pleasure doing business with you.

FADE TO:

Howard hangs up the phone. Shakes his head. Sexy Secretary enters.

SECRETARY
I’m gonna take off, is that OK?

HOWARD
I guess it is quitting time, isn’t

it. You can take off. I’ll stick around for a little bit.

SECRETARY
Sure you don’t want me to wait? I

would be happy to.

 Howard twirls his wedding ring.

HOWARD
No, it’s ok. One of the security

guards should be here soon. I won’t be alone for very long.

SECRETARY
If you are sure. There isn’t a

thing that I have to do this evening.

Howard checks his watch.

HOWARD
No, really. You don’t need to stay

around here any longer than you have to. I’m just going to make another phone call anyway.

SECRETARY
Suit yourself. See you tomorrow,

Howard.

Secretary leaves disappointed.

Howard picks up the phone, dials.

HOWARD (on phone)
Dan. How’s It going? Well thank you. Listen, I seem to have a problem. Clive needs those materials dug up by Thursday. I told him we had our best people working on it, and by best people, I mean you. (pause) Could you possibly pull in some overtime for this?

CLICK from the phone.

HOWARD (CONT’D)
 Hello? Dan?

Howard looks at the phone, fiddles with the cord.

HOWARD (CONT’D)
Must have been a bad connection.

CRASH comes from the mine. Howard stands. Pokes head out of office

HOWARD (CONT’D)

Hello?

Howard shrugs, walks back to his desk.

CRASH from mine.
Howard walks through the mine, flashlight in hand.

HOWARD (CONT’D)
Anyone down here? I’m closing up
for the night.

 Howard’s watch beeps.
VOICE calls from the mine “HOWARD”

HOWARD (CONT’D)
 Who’s there?

Voice repeats “HOWARD”

Howard stumbles, falls to the ground.

HOWARD (CONT’D)
This isn’t funny, whoever this is.

SARAH LINDLEY, white dress, pale skin, red eyes appears behind Howard.

SARAH LINDLEY
Don’t you know your own wife’s

voice?

Howard breathes a sigh of relief.

HOWARD
Shana, You scared the Hell outta

me.

SARAH LINDLEY
 Shana? Who is that?

Howard turns around.

HOWARD
 Sarah? How

SARAH LINDLEY
 Hello Howard. Miss me?

Sarah bends and touches Howard. Loud Scream.

INT WALLACE MINE

FADE TO:
Dean turns around, shines the flashlight, stops in his tracks. A WOMAN stands in front of him.

SARAH LINDLEY
 Hello boys.

END OF ACT TWO

ACT THREE

page25image1336
INT. WALLACE MINE
SARAH LINDLEY stands in front of the boys. White dress, pale face, red eyes.

DEAN
I have had about enough of your

kind.

SARAH
And what kind would that be?

DEAN
Selfish spirits who can’t let go.

You are just holding on to nothing, you know that?

Sarah flings Dean against the wall.

SARAH
Selfish, huh? We will see about

that.

DEAN
Does something seem a bit off to

you, Sam?

Dean dangles, moves his head towards Sam. Sam reaches for a gun from the duffle bag.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Something about you just seems to
be extra special about you.

SARAH
Really, I guess I’m just good at my

job.

DEAN
No, I think your flavor is just

extra bitchy.

Sam loads the gun. Sarah motions her hand, the gun falls to the ground. Sarah looks back at Dean.

SARAH
I think you should watch your tone,

Dean. I seem to be capable of a lot, you know. And that rock salt won’t work on me.

SAM
Dean, I don’t think she is just

a

Sarah flings Sam against the wall.

SARAH
What? Just a spirit? My my Sam, you

catch on as fast as they say. It’s hard to believe that you were dumb enough to trust a demon once.

SAM
Shut up.

SARAH LINDLEY
What was her name again? Oh yeah

right.

SAM
 I mean it.

SARAH LINDLEY
Oh yes, Ruby. You know what is

funny about that, there wasn’t even a demon that liked her. Talk about a demon’s demon. And you fell for it. We were all so surprised when that happened. I don’t think even Lucifer saw that one.

DEAN
You think that stuff is really

going to shake him? He’s heard it all, sister.

SARAH LINDLEY
Oh, it looks like it is. Look at

him, he’s quite squeamish.

DEAN
Nah, he always looks like that,

right, Sammy?

SARAH LINDLEY
Awe, isn’t that cute, one brother

sticking up for the other. Wait, isn’t that how it always happens in your story? One brother builds up the other, and we are all supposed to believe it. Like that really works for anyone anymore, really.

Sam nods.

SAM
 We do ok.

SARAH LINDLEY
Yeah, by ok, you mean the
Apocalypse. Come on, Sam. Own up.

SAM
I know what I did, I’m not proud of

it.

SARAH LINDLEY
Oh, but you should be. You single

handedly started the end of the world. Bravo.

Sarah claps.

DEAN
Listen you bitch. We can stop it

and we will. You best be believing that.

SARAH LINDLEY
You brush this off like its not the

end of the world, but it is. This isn’t some small job you can bounce back from. Millions and millions of people are going to die, each one of them your fault.

SAM
You think I don’t know this?

SARAH LINDLEY
I don’t think it even computes for

you. When Lucifer takes you over, you won’t be able to hide from it. You’re eyes will be stuck open to see all these people die. It won’t end, Sam. It will never end. Do you know what never is? No stopping. The rivers and lakes will run with blood. Rail will be tears, tears of the parents that lost their children, all because of deal old Sammy Winchester.

DEAN You need to stop.

Sarah waves her hand, silences Dean.

SARAH LINDLEY
Oh but Dean, you know it’s true.

Turns to look at Sam.

SARAH LINDLEY (CONT’D)
 Little Sammy here, you're really
small now, weak, broken. Well you know what they say, what doesn't break you... Well this time, it made us stronger. Thanks for that.

SAM
 You bitch.

SARAH LINDLEY
Can’t take the heat, stay out of

the kitchen, Sam.

 Sarah turns to Dean.

DEAN
Don’t even start with me,

sweetheart.

SARAH LINDLEY
Tisk tisk, a little testy, aren’t

we? Don’t act like you are the innocent one, cause we all know the skeletons that lie in your closet.

Dean struggles.

SARAH LINDLEY (CONT’D)
You really think that you can go up
against Lucifer? The two of you can’t even fight off a simple ghost without getting yourselves into trouble.

SAM
 We’ve wasted worse.

SARAH LINDLEY
Oh, was that a shot at me? Sam you should know better. I hold all the

cards here.

SAM
From what we can tell, you have a

loosing hand.

SARAH LINDLEY
Clever.

DEAN
Oh, you better believe him. How do

you know we don’t have a back up plan?

SARAH LINDLEY
From what I hear, the Winchester’s never have a back up plan. I think

I’m safe.

DEAN
You seem to know a whole lot about

us.

SARAH LINDLEY
Well, you boys are a hot topic

these days. You can only piss off so many demons before we all start to hear about it.

Sam and Dean can only move their heads.

DEAN
Being a spirit wasn’t enough for

you? Let me guess, you asked for this, right? To be able to walk and not float?

SARAH
You think I wanted this?

SAM
Why else would you be here?

SARAH
It’s like killing two birds with

one store, so to speak. Now, you just hang in there. There is someone I must see.

Across the mine, Howard hangs on the wall. Sam struggles to move.

HOWARD
 What’s going on?

SARAH
My dear Howard. There is a lot of

explaining that needs to be done, but I don’t have time for any of that. Let’s just get to the punch line, shall we.

DEAN
Howard, whatever she tells you,

it’s lies. Don’t listen to it.

SARAH
Why are you trying to get in

between me and my Howard?

Sarah walks over to Dean. Scratches his chest. Dean oozes blood.

DEAN (in pain)
This was my good shirt.

SAM
We know what really happened,

Sarah. Howard wasn’t responsible for anything.

DEAN
It won’t work, Sam. Not if a demon

is controlling the angry spirit, it will just light the fire.

SARAH
And the fire must be lit.

Sarah walks back to Howard.

HOWARD
Please, Sarah. I didn’t do

anything. Please. You were here one day and gone the next. I didn’t know where you went. I had to move on with my life.

SARAH
And you didn’t think that would

hurt me, Howard? You didn’t even try to find out what happened to me, why I did what I did.

HOWARD
I didn’t know. You were gone. Our

kids were gone. I thought you just left me, Sarah. I never found out what really happened. Just the rumors, that’s all there was. I never believed that you would hurt our children.

SARAH
I had to, Howard. Don’t you see.

You made me do this. It was your fault. If you would have been faithful.

HOWARD
I was never unfaithful, Sarah. I

was only with you. It wasn’t until after you were gone, for years.

SARAH
I understand, you had to get over

me you had to move on.

HOWARD
Yes. Now, you can let these boys

go, we can talk about this.

SARAH
Howard, I can’t let them go, they

want to kill me. They would just take me away from you again, is that what you want?

HOWARD
Of course not. Why would I want

that?

SARAH
You were always so sweet.

She kisses his cheek. Breaks his neck. Howard falls to the ground.

SARAH (CONT’D)
It felt good to do something again,

get my hands dirty

Sarah walks over to Sam, puts her icy hands around his throat.

SARAH (CONT’D)
Oh, Sam. It will be fun watching

you die.

Sam’s feet dangle, Dean struggles. She runs her finger down Sam’s chest.

SAM
 Go to Hell!

Sarah takes a step back, bursts into flames. Sam and Dean fall to the floor.

DEAN
Nice timing on that one, Sammy.

SAM
Wasn’t me, must have been..

DEAN
Dad. You can say it.

SAM
Well, it worked whatever it was.

Sam helps Dean up. They exit the mine.
 EXT. WALLACE MINE
Sam helps Dean into the passenger seat of the impala. Sam drives.

SAM
Keep pressure on that.

DEAN
Yeah, Sam. You act like this is the

first time I’ve been stabbed, or scratched, or maimed.

SAM
I know. That was just... close.

Really close.

DEAN
We would have gotten out of it. We

have gotten out of worse.

SAM
Ya sure? I don’t know Dean. She was

pretty pissed. Whoever she was

DEAN
Dad came through, Sammy. You should

see that, now more than ever.

Sam clenches the steering wheel. Dean puts pressure on his wound.

ACT FOUR

page33image1336
EXT. WALLACE INN
Sam pulls into a parking spot. Exits car, helps Dean out of car.

SAM
 Isn’t that?

Points to the truck in the space across.

DEAN
 Yep, he’s back.

Sam puts Dean’s arm around his shoulders, helps him inside the room.

INT. WALLACE INN
Sam lays Dean on the bed, goes to the bathroom. Grabs cloth and damps it.

SAM
You sure got back here quick.

John sits at the table, sips on a beer.

JOHN
I’ve been to this town, once or

twice.

SAM
 Wallace, really?

JOHN
Yeah, stopped in from time to time.

SAM
 Stopped in?

Sam gives Dean the cloth to clean his wound.

JOHN
 That hurt?

DEAN
Feels kinda good actually. Real

pain from a real demon.

JOHN
Demon? I thought she was just a

spirit?

SAM
That’s what we thought too.

DEAN
She started mouthing off, and she

knew us. Spirits don’t know us. Demons do.

JOHN
 What did she say?

SAM
The usual. We are pretty hated by

the entire demon population.

JOHN
What would be the usual?

DEAN
Oh you know, we live up to our

reputations, Sam started the apocalypse.

Sam clears his throat.

JOHN
She didn’t shake you, did she?

DEAN
Nah, don’t worry. Sam is stone.

Dean shakes his head.

SAM
 I was fine.

JOHN
Ya sure, son. You can get riled

up.

SAM
It’s not like I haven’t heard it

before. I have come to terms

DEAN
 Sam.

SAM
 What?

DEAN
It’s ok. You don’t have to..

Dean nods.

SAM
No, Dean. I do. I know what I did,

and I know how messed up it was. On my own I brought on the end of the world.

DEAN
 Sam.

SAM
Don’t protect me, Dean.

JOHN
He’s right.

JOHN (CONT’D)
Don’t protect him anymore, Dean.

You can’t always protect him.

 Dean looks at John.

DEAN
Why do I feel like it’s opposite

day?

JOHN
I say it with the best intent.

DEAN
Best intent? When you I don’t know,

died, or whatever, you specifically told me to look out for Sam, to save him. Why is it all of a sudden, “back off Dean’?

JOHN
He’s just gotta learn. You still

need to look out for him, just in a different way than what you are used to. More of a silent way.

DEAN
Oh ya, cause that makes a lot of

friggin; sense.

JOHN
 You’ll see.

SAM
I don’t mind having Dean look out

for me, ya know? I just know what I did...

JOHN
I know, Sammy. I know.

Dean rolls his eyes.

DEAN
We were talking about a demon

right?

JOHN
Yeah. How did this happen?

Points to Dean’s wound.

DEAN
I think she liked me.

JOHN
Sorry, boys.

DEAN
 For what?

JOHN
 Falling behind

DEAN
Behind? Another minute and we would

have been Hell bound.

SAM
A minute? More like seconds.

JOHN
It was taking longer than I thought

to find the corpse.

SAM
You should have let one of us go

with you

JOHN
For what? To prove me wrong? To see

that I’m not really your dad? What Sam?

DEAN
 To help you dig.

JOHN
I’m sure that’s not what you meant,

right Sam?

SAM
 Yeah, well.

DEAN
 Sam.

JOHN
It’s fine, Dean. He can believe

what he wants. I’m not going to force him to listen to me. I’m not going to make the same mistakes that I made before.

Dean gets up, walks to the fridge, grabs a beer.

DEAN
I think we all deserve one of

these. Sam?

 Sam shakes his head.

DEAN (CONT’D) Suit yourself.

JOHN
 Wichita.

DEAN
 What?

JOHN
Wichita, Kansas. That is where you

can find Lucifer.

Sam and Dean look at each other.

DEAN
 Wichita huh?

JOHN
Yeah. There has been demonic omens,

worse than anyone has ever seen before. Bobby and I found a bunch of them in the matter of hours. No telling how long he will actually be there, as of yesterday he was seeming to make a new home for himself.

SAM
What are we waiting for, let’s go.

JOHN
It’s not that easy, Sammy. There is

traps set up all around that town. You can’t just walk in.

DEAN
So, we’ll fight ‘em. The three of

us together can do it. We can even get Bobby in on this action.

JOHN
No, not the three of us.

DEAN
 What?

JOHN
I have to take some time, to get my

strength back. There is no way I can go fighting Lucifer in my condition. I’m not ready yet.

SAM
You must be our dad. Bailing when

really needed.

JOHN
 Sam.

DEAN
He’s right. We have been let down

by you more times than we can actually count. Whenever the tough comes, John gets going.

JOHN
What would you rather have me do?

Go in tired, get all of us killed?

DEAN
At this point, yes.

SAM
It’s fine, Dean. Let him go.

Dean looks at Sam.

SAM (CONT’D)
You should get rest. We all need to

be prepared for this. John smiles at Sam.

JOHN
I wouldn’t expect you being the one

to stand up for me, Sammy.

SAM
You are right, this time. You

deserve to be backed up. Dean stands.

DEAN
Wait. This really isn’t a good

idea. You need to be listening to me. We should stay together. You can rest, get your strength back and we can hatch a plan.

JOHN
Sorry, Dean. That just won’t work.

I have to be on my own to heal faster. I know that if I’m with you boys I will just want to help. I need to be on my own for this.

Dean rolls his eyes. John stands.

JOHN (CONT’D)
It was great to see you boys. Don’t

worry, I will keep in touch and see you in a few days. Wichita.

Sam stands, walks towards John.

JOHN (CONT’D)
 Sammy. Take care of yourself.

SAM Yeah, I will.

John shakes hands with Sam. John walks towards Dean.

JOHN
Dean. It will be OK. A few days.

DEAN
 Yeah, OK.

They shake hands.

JOHN
 Take care boys.

John walks out the door. Slams it behind him.

Dean sits back in a chair.

DEAN
I can’t explain it, Sammy.

SAM Explain what?

DEAN
That was our dad. I don’t know how,

I don’t know how, but that was him.
Sam picks the keys up off the table.

DEAN (CONT’D)
 Where are you going?
SAM Graveyard. Ya coming?

Sam exits the room. Dean grabs a jacket, follows behind.
EXT. WALLACE INN
Sam jumps into the Impala drivers seat. Dean climbs in the passenger seat.

SAM
There is only one problem there,

Dean.

DEAN
And what would that be?

SAM
How long have we been hunting?

DEAN
 Uh. What?

SAM
 Humor me, Dean.

DEAN
 All our lives.

SAM
And have you ever seen a demon

being wasted by salting and burning their bones?

DEAN
 What’s your point?

SAM
“Dad” couldn’t do that. Whoever

killed the demon would have to be in the room with the demon, and neither one of us were mouthing any incantations

DEAN
So you are saying that.

SAM
Demons don’t burst into flames for

no reason, unless something bigger comes after them.

DEAN
Something bigger as in Lucifer

bigger?

SAM
I’m just saying Dean. What else

could it be?

DEAN
You can’t just accept it, can you?

SAM
It just isn’t.

DEAN
 Sam.

SAM
I know, you don’t agree.

EXT. GRAVEYARD
Sam parks the car. Exits.

DEAN
I just wish you would see it,

Sammy.

Sam shakes his head.
They walk through the graveyard.

DEAN (CONT’D)
 There it is.
Dean motions towards the grave.

SAM
I tried, Dean. I did.

They stop in front of the grave.
EXT. WALLACE INN

CUT TO:
John sits on a bench across the parking lot. Holds his head in his hands.

CUT TO:

EXT. WALLACE INN
Sam and Dean park the car, exit. They enter the room. INT. WALLACE INN

Sam smiles slightly.
Dean drinks his beer.
Sam walks to the window, peaks out.

DEAN
Come on, Sam. Get a move on.

SAM
 Yeah.

DEAN
Don’t forget the porn under the

mattress.

Sam shakes his head. Laughs.

DEAN (CONT’D)
 Sorry, Sammy.

SAM
It’s ok. We will figure it out in

Wichita.

 Dean holds up his beer.

DEAN
 To Wichita.
Dean drinks the beer. Sam smiles.

END OF ACT FOUR

page44image1296
EXT. WALLACE INN

John stands outside the motel room window. He watches the boys. The boys move around, pack their belongings.
John puts his hand on the window, walks around the building.
John’s eyes turn white, he smiles. John disappears into thin air.

FADE TO BLACK.
